These instruments usually consist of a battery-powered instrument that typically includes a dedicated connector capable of driving a detachable single-use hollow needle with a stylet that is long enough to reach the spinal cord, and a threaded cannula that is inserted after stylet is removed; then aspiration is provided to obtain the bone marrow sample. Bone marrow drills may be also used for harvesting bone marrow for transplantation.
