Central supply carts designed with a totally enclosed cabinet-like structure that usually includes hinged doors that are intended for the organized storage and transport in separate containers of sterile supplies and instruments necessary for single surgical procedures. These carts are typically made of solid metal, usually non-magnetic stainless steel; they may include shelves and/or drawers. Closed carts are used in hospitals that do not have dedicated sterile and soiled holding areas and/or a lift dedicated to the movement of carts.
