?:definition
  • Healthcare workstations designed to allow healthcare professionals to remotely monitor patients suffering from common diseases by performing a set of pre-established physiologic tests. These units are placed in installations known as medical kiosks and operated by the healthcare staff (typically a registered nurse). The data and/or images obtained are then sent to a healthcare information system for further assessment. Medical monitoring kiosk workstations typically consist of mobile computerized units (e.g., personal computers, laptops) that include input devices (e.g., keypads, touch-screens), output devices (e.g., monitors, printers), and electronic memories and processors. Medical monitoring kiosk workstations also include as integral components physiologic measuring devices, monitors, recorders, and appropriate software; they also include interfaces with healthcare information and telemedicine systems. Monitoring kiosk workstations provide a limited set of tests that may be customized to a particular disease (e.g., diabetes) and/or patient. In addition to healthcare settings these workstations may be available in pharmacies and other non-clinical locations.
