Surgical retractor kits designed for use during procedures on the spine (i.e., backbones). These kits typically consist of a collection of devices, instruments, and supplies combined to temporarily separate and retain tissue or other anatomical parts by exposing and/or giving access to the spine without manual support once they are set (i.e., self-retained). The kit components are available in a variety of shapes and styles according to the segment of the spine to be exposed/retracted and/or the procedure to be performed. Spinal surgery retractor kits may be directly coupled to the patient or, more frequently, to other structure (e.g., a surgical table or stand); the kits frequently incorporate fiber optic systems to illuminate the surgical site. Dedicated surgical retractor kits are available for a variety of surgical procedures of the cervical, thoracic, and/or lumbar spine segments.
