Surgical retractors designed to temporarily separate and hold back the edges of an incision in order to provide access to the thyroid gland and/or other associated anatomic structures. These retractors usually consist of manual instruments whose blades at the distal tip are substituted by clips resembling forceps. They include ratchets for self-retention and an integral U-tube with adjustable width to fit around the neck at the proximal end without any additional handle. Thyroid surgical retractors are used for surgical procedures on the thyroid, including excision of tumors.
