Muscle strength exercises that are designed to train the lower limb muscles based on the principle of eccentric contractions. Eccentric contractions (also known as negative force contractions) take place when a muscle resists a force, rather than producing one (e.g., when a weight is slowly lowered during a bicep curl). These exercisers typically consist of equipment that includes a recumbent chair and two pedals that exert regulated forces on each of the user\'s feet. As the user opposes (resists) the forces exerted on the lower limbs, eccentric contractions occur. Lower limb eccentric training exercises are designed to treat lower limb weakness, especially during rehabilitation, and/or to increase balance.
