Brain electrical stimulators designed provide input stimuli for monitoring and/or recording provoked neurological signals from the spinal cord and/or peripheral muscles known as motor-evoked potentials (MEPs). These devices typically consist of a pulse generator that can deliver a train of high-voltage electric pulses through several channels. The stimulator output signals are applied to the brain using electrodes attached to the scalp (i.e., transcranial) at several different points until getting the best MEP response for a patient. MEP stimulators are mainly used for intraoperative assessment of the patient\'s neurologic status; the stimulators are also used in the diagnosis and evaluation of multiple sclerosis and as indicators for stroke motor recovery.
