  • Electric current leakage testers designed for testing invasive ultrasonic probes and/or leads that include an ultrasound transducer. These testers measure the leakage current using line voltage (e.g., 120, 240 volt), providing results as pass/failure when the current is below or above a pre-determined value respectively (e.g., 185 microampere). The tester usually consists of a portable, battery-operated handheld instrument with luminous indicators of different colors for pass/failure conditions. The transducer probe is immersed in a conductive solution (e.g., saline) whose conductivity should be previously measured usually using the tester. The tester also include a connection block and adapters to match the transducer probe under test. These testers are used for leakage current testing of ultrasonic probes and leads including ultrasonic transducers from many models and manufacturers, including transesophageal echocardiographic (TEE) transducers. Some testers can also show the numerical values of the measurements (e.g., leakage current, applied voltage, frequency, conductivity of solution).
