Substances designed to substitute the hemostasis capability of platelets of human blood without associated thrombogenicity. There are several types of compounds intended for platelet substitutes, including: (1) infusible platelet membranes produced from human platelets, (2) fibrinogen-coated albumin microspheres, and (3) liposome-based agents. Platelet blood substitutes are intended to increase in-vivo hemostasis for a significant period of time.
