Tissue culture systems designed to provide optimum conditions for microorganisms and/or cell cultures under controlled conditions that also provide conditions for testing the cultures during exposure to toxic substances . These systems typically include the standard equipment needed for cell and/or tissue culture (e.g., incubation chambers, gas sources, heating systems, environmental controls). The systems also include a sub-system intended to provide uniform exposition of the cultured cells and/or tissues to precise quantities of toxic substances (e.g., tobacco smoke, diesel gases) usually in aerosol state. Toxic substance exposure systems are automated systems that work using a software. Some systems may include software to evaluate conditions such as cytotoxicity, cellular stress, and genotoxicity after the tests.
