Solutions used for partial plasma replacement during platelet storage. These products typically consist of water isotonic solution with some compounds known as crystalloid nutrients that include components such as sodium phosphate, sodium citrate, sodium chloride, sodium acetate, and potassium chloride. The solutions are used to replace the percentage of plasma in preserved platelets (e.g., by 65 to 80%) reducing the plasma transfused to the recipient of the platelets without modifying the total volume transfused. Plasma replacement solutions are not intended for direct infusion to patients.
