Computer-aided detection systems designed to obtain visible and fluorescent (usually in the near infrared spectrum) angiographic images of blood flow during laparoscopic procedures. These systems typically consist of a CCD camera that can obtain images in the visible and near infrared spectra, light sources, a monitor, and a processing unit for the images. The central processing unit is usually mounted on a cart with an attached monitor and articulated arm including the camera. The system can obtain visible light images using similar procedures to standard laparoscopes and additional fluorescent images of the blood flow in vessels and/or tissue and organ perfusion after a vascular injection of a fluorescent agent (e.g., indocyanine green). Then the data is processed using a software and shown in the monitor display as visual and fluorescent images of the blood flow in vessels and/or tissue and organ perfusion. The systems are used to provide real time endoscopic visible images and also fluorescent images of blood flow in vessels and tissues.
