  • Implants designed to reposition the tongue anteriorly and intended to reduce blockage of the patient\'s airway caused by intrusion of the tongue into the airway. These implants typically consist of metallic bone screw anchors and polyester sutures. The sutures connect either the soft tissue of the tongue base or the hyoid bone to the bone screw, which is typically anchored in the patient\'s mandible. Tightening of the sutures moves the tongue base anteriorly or suspends the hyoid bone, which alters the geometry of the tongue base and surrounding soft tissue.
