  • Devices designed to reduce the concentration of oxygen in air being breathed by an individual, replicating the effects of being at high altitude. Hypoxicators may be passive (i.e., non-powered) devices or active (i.e., powered). Passive hypoxicators typically consist of a face mask and breathing circuit that promotes rebreathing of exhaled air by the user. Active hypoxicators typically consist of a line-powered generator unit that supplies oxygen-depleted air. Active hypoxicator generators may supply the oxygen depleted air to a single user via a face mask and breathing circuit or to one or more users by pumping the air into an enclosure (e.g., chamber, tent).
