Physiologic monitors designed for continuous or near continuous measurement and display of a patient\'s glucose level and are hard-wired to the patient at the bedside. These bedside glucose monitors typically consists of a line-powered control unit with a user interface and containing a spectrometer to quantitatively measure glucose concentration in received plasma samples. The monitor also has alarms to alert clinicians when a patient\'s glucose values are too high or too low.
