SESSION TITLE: Chest Infections Posters SESSION TYPE: Original Investigation Posters PRESENTED ON: October 18-21, 2020 PURPOSE: data about pneumonia caused by respiratory viral infections in Egypt are limited This study described the epidemiological pattern and outcome of pneumonia cases caused by viruses between 2010-2014 METHODS: SARI surveillance was carried out at CUH during the period 2010–2014 All hospitalized adults and pediatric patients meeting the WHO case definition criteria for SARI were enrolled Nasopharyngeal/oropharyngeal swabs were collected and samples were tested using reverse transcription-PCR for influenza A, B, respiratory syncytial virus, human metapneumovirus, parainfluenza viruses 1, 2, 3, 4, adenovirus, human bocavirus, coronavirus, enterovirus, rhinovirus, and atypical bacteria (Mycoplasma spp , Chlamydia spp , and Legionella spp ) CXR was done withing 24 hours from admission follow up clinical course over the period of admission was conducted RESULTS: 3207 patients had been enrolled into this study CXR was done for 89% of the cases(2855/3207) pneumonia has been detected in 37% (1055/2855) viral infections were detected in 13% of pneumonia cases (369/2855) patients below 18 years old represented 94%(348/369) where adults above 18 were only 6% (21/369) 54% were male ( 201/369) 44% % occurred in 2010 (164/369), 18% (67/369) in 2011,14%(52/369) in 2012,13 3(50/369) in 2013 lastly 9 7%% (36/369) in 2014 64 %(237/369) the cases happened between November and march viruses encountered are as follows;RSV detected in 50% (187/369),PIV in 18% (67/369), adeno virus in 12 7%(47/369), hMPV 9 2%(34/369), H3N2 FLU A 2 4% (9/369), pand 2009 H1N1 1 8% (7/369), BOCA virus 0 8% (3/369) & mycoplasma 0 2% %(1/369) mixed viral etiology detected in 8% (30/369) 89% had comorbidities (330/369) and the major comorbidities were as follows;45% (168/369) were asthmatic, 24% (89/369) were cardiac,9% (33/369) had neurological problems, 8% (30/369)had endocrinal problems(DM II) 28% (104/369) of the patients admitted in ICU AND 15% (55/369) received MV ARDS encountered in 2 1% (8/369), MOF in 1 8% (7/369) and HARF IN 3% (11/369) 98%of the patients have been discharged (361/369) while 2% (8/369)died from ARDS with RF CONCLUSIONS: viral etiology has been detected in 13% of the cases of CAP,RSV is the most common virus detected,89% had comrobidites only 2 % of the cases died from ARDS CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: viral etiology should be considered in Egyptian patients with CAP especially if there are comorbidities DISCLOSURES: No relevant relationships by Usama Abu Elhassan, source=Web Response
