  • The novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) is a respiratory tract infection caused by SARS-CoV-2 Upper respiratory tract symptoms persist for several days to a week after onset, and in some patients the pneumonia symptoms worsen and become severe Patients with underlying medical conditions and the elderly are risk factors for severe disease Diagnosis is made by detecting SARS-CoV-2 by nasopharyngeal swabs or PCR testing of sputum Treatment is predominantly symptomatic, and at present only remdesivir has been shown to be effective in shortening clinical symptoms In addition to standard precautions, contact precautions and droplet precautions should be followed for infection control, and air precautions should be taken when performing aerosol-generating procedures (Author\'s abstract)
