Since Brazil registered its first COVID-19 case in February 2020, it has become the country with most cases in Latin America and the second in the world Brazilian president Bolsonaro has been accused of mishandling the pandemic, and himself got infected by the virus Since then, Brazil is left facing a potentially lethal combination: intertwined political, institutional, economic and health crises This article analyzes several dimensions of the impact that the coronavirus epidemic had on Brazil\'s affairs: the measures taken by Brazilian government to tackle the emergency;the pandemic\'s impact on the economy and the difficulties that Brazil may face for a rapid economic recovery;its social impact, especially over the poorest and most marginalized classes;its effect on the healthcare system;its geopolitical implications, focusing on the possible impact of the pandemic over the BRICS group, including Brasilia\'s relationship with Beijing The article concludes that the coronavirus pandemic had several drastically negative effects on Brazilian society, economy and politics, which were already in a precarious position before Bolsonaro\'s election in 2018 and continued worsening in the last two years The South American country may face years of struggle before being able to recover
