  • As more and more dental offices and dental assisting programs reopen across the country, dental professionals are coming to terms with the realities of what the new normal for dentistry will look like moving forward Clinical assistants, business and administrative assistants, and dental educators are experiencing firsthand the changes in protocols and systems and processes that have been implemented as a result of the coronavirus pandemic There has been and will continue to be a great deal of discussion focused on the challenges faced when returning to work and the pros and cons of remaining in the dental assisting profession In this article I wanted to look at the issue from the perspective of those individuals who have made the decision, whether consciously or subconsciously, to continue working as dental assisting professionals To gain this perspective, we wanted to gather feedback from dental assisting professionals actively working in the field and being faced with the challenges associated with changes in protocols and systems and processes as a result of the coronavirus pandemic A special thank you to Sarah Stream, 8th District Trustee and Co-Chair of the Committee on Social Media and Technology for the American Dental Assistants Association (ADAA), for listening to my ideas and then putting them into action by developing and posting the survey on the ADAA Facebook page
