  • Devices designed to be implanted temporarily or permanently in the inferior vena cava for the purpose of capturing large clots, preventing them from traveling to the lung where they could cause pulmonary embolism. Vena cava filters typically consist of a metallic (e.g., nitinol, stainless steel, titanium) apparatus that is placed within the inferior vena cava using dedicated catheter-based deployment systems.
