  • Myopathic EMG: an electromyogram revealing myopathic or denervative changes. In inflammatory myopathies specific EMG changes can be seen. These changes are particularly suggestive of polymyositis or dermatomyositis. The three types of changes seen in muscle inflammation are 1) polyphasic, short, small motor-unit potentials, 2) fibrillation and positive sharp waves with insertional irritability, and 3) bizarre, high-frequency, repetitive discharges.
