Laboratory analyzers designed to identify microorganisms in body fluids and to evaluate the in vitro susceptibility of an isolated pathogen to a variety of antimicrobial agents that prevent bacterial growth. These analyzers are capable of yielding interpretative results (e.g., susceptible, intermediate, resistant) and/or determining minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum lethal concentration (MLC). The results derived from these analyzers are used to treat patients with the proper antimicrobial agents.
