-
Systems that provide a visual or auditory signal corresponding to the status of one or more of a patient\'s physiological functions (e.g., brainwave activity, muscle activity, blood pressure). These systems detect changes in the physiological function that are normally outside of normal awareness, amplify them, and provide the signal to the patient, helping him/her to develop some degree of conscious control over a usually involuntary function. Biofeedback systems are mostly used in tension headache control, muscle relaxation, and rehabilitation and behavioral research.
