Hematology analyzers designed to perform grouping and other basic blood-processing tests. Most of these analyzers require previous centrifugation of the sample to separate the red cells from the plasma. A positive result for blood group identity usually occurs when a known antiserum agglutinates those red blood cells having a corresponding antigen. Blood-grouping analyzers usually perform tests that include ABO grouping and subgrouping, Rh and other red cell phenotyping, and antibody detection. Some of these analyzers can perform other tests (e.g., for syphilis or hepatitis) that are usually included in pretransfusion procedures.
