Point-of-care breath analyzers designed to determine the methane content in a breath sample, usually expressed as parts per million (ppm). These analyzers typically use electrochemical or gas chromatography measuring methods. Most of these analyzers can also determine hydrogen and/or carbon dioxide content in the breath sample. Methane breath analyzers are mostly used to determine carbohydrate bacteriological breakdown deficiencies and malabsorption in the small intestine due to bacterial overgrowth.
