Photographic cameras designed to provide still images from the proximal end of a microscope. These cameras typically use the lens system of the microscope to enlarge the image of the field; the camera may be intended to be used directly through the microscope or through a dedicated adapter attached to the microscope. Photographic microscope cameras are used mainly in clinical laboratories for documentation of images of microscope slides and to facilitate diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures.
