Nasal cannulae designed to apply continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) through the nostrils. These cannulae consist of a plastic tube with two plastic prongs shaped to fit snugly into each nostril; silicone rubber is placed over the nose and nares to achieve an airtight seal. CPAP nasal cannulae are used to decrease the number of apneic episodes in sleep apnea patients. Nasal masks have been used as an alternative to these cannulae.
