  • Dental casting materials, whose components are metal alloys, designed to make a positive copy of a given area of the oral cavity using a mold previously taken at the dentist\'s office. These casting materials may be made of nonprecious or precious alloys. The materials are poured into a mold which contains a hollow cavity of an appropriate shape to fit teeth and/or oral tissue, allowed to solidify and then ejected or broken out of the mold to complete the process. Dental alloy casting materials are typically resistant to corrosion and tarnish; they also should be compatible with oral tissues. Dental alloy casting materials are used in dental laboratories for inlays, frameworks for fixed prostheses and partial dentures, for restoration posts, dental cores, and splints.
