Urethral urinary catheters designed for simultaneous drainage and irrigation of the bladder. These catheters usually consist of a triple-lumen plastic (e.g., polyurethane, silicone) tube that includes a balloon close to its distal tip; at the proximal end it has a port for balloon inflation and a second port used for irrigation purposes. Drainage/irrigation urinary catheters are used for the continuous or intermittent irrigation (e.g., after prostatic surgery) and/or drug administration (e.g., antimicrobial, chemotherapy) into the bladder.
