  • Composite resin restorative dental materials designed to be used as plastic fillings, for in situ restoration of the appearance, structure and/or function of a patient\'s teeth and require an activator and a catalyst to activate polymerization. These composite restorative dental materials consist of a synthetic organic self-polymerizable resin matrix in which a blend of particles (e.g., glass, quartz, silica) acting as fillers are dispersed. Self-cured composite resin restorative dental materials are supplied in a two-paste system (activator and catalyst); both pastes are mixed in appropriate proportion polymerizing in a solid resin without the use of external heat. They are usually strong, durable, easy to manipulate and shape. They are placed in highly visible areas (e.g., the central incisors or any other teeth that can be seen when smiling), in areas of the mouth where conservation of tooth structure is a top priority or in areas inaccessible to light. They are used in dentists\' offices.
