  • Denture base resins that need heat during the polymerization process. These resins usually consist of an acrylic monometer of methyl methacrylate (typically supplied as a powder) that becomes a polymer (polymethyl methacrylate or PMMA) when mixed with a catalyst such as benzoyl peroxide (typically supplied as a liquid); reinforcing fillers may be included in the resin to increase its strength and/or durability. Heat-cured resins used for denture bases should be biocompatible and resistant to oral cavity fluids, provide good mechanical and esthetic properties, and should be also easy to repair. They are used in dental laboratories.
