Radio-frequency (RF) therapy systems designed to warm localized body tissues using their resistance to the passage of high-frequency electromagnetic radiation. These systems include a RF generator in the range of 10 to 100 MHz (typically 27.12 MHz), a power amplifier, and applicators to deliver the energy to the patient. Diathermy RF systems are particularly useful in heating high-water-content tissues. They are used to promote healing and pain relief (e.g., to treat muscle spasms or joint contractures) and for treatment of neurological problems (e.g., sciatica).
