Machines designed to produce dry ice. Dry ice makers have a connecting tubing or hose to attach the unit to an external cylinder of liquid carbon dioxide. The liquid carbon dioxide is sent into an empty chamber where under normal atmospheric pressure a portion of the liquid gas flashes into carbon dioxide gas. This change from liquid to gas causes the temperature to drop quickly, solidifying (i.e., freezing) the remaining carbon dioxide liquid into a snow-like consistency. In the chamber, the dry ice snow is compressed into blocks or various sized pellets. The units may also include a pressure gauge and pressure release valve.
