Electrical safety electrosurgical monitors designed to assess the electrical impedance in the return path from the patient to the electrical generator, particularly the contact impedance between the return electrode and the skin. Most of these monitors deliver a test signal to the return electrode via the return electrode cable, the signal is then returned to the monitor which continuously measures the value of the impedance and alarm if its value is more than a pre-established limit. Return electrode safety monitors are used during monopolar electrosurgical procedures.
