A blood gases (carbon dioxide partial pressure, oxygen partial pressure) and blood pH test system is a device intended to measure certain gases in blood, serum, plasma or pH of blood, serum, and plasma. Measurements of blood gases (carbon dioxide partial pressure, oxygen partial pressure) and blood pH are used in the diagnosis and treatment of life-threatening acid-base disturbances. (Note: the symbols used in the published regulation have been replaced by the phrase ``carbon dioxide partial pressure, oxygen partial pressure\'\' because the symbols could not be rendered in ASCII text--This parenthetic clause is not in the regulation.).
