Neurologic electrodes designed to detect and transmit bioelectric signals for measuring, recording, and/or monitoring the brain function (i.e., electroencephalography, EEG) that are placed in the nasopharyngeal region. These electrodes are typically transdermal, thin, stiff silver rods or needles covered with sleeves and ending in an exposed ball or bullet-shaped contact. These electrodes are inserted bilaterally through the nostrils to come to rest against the back of the nasopharynx. Nasopharyngeal EEG electrodes can also detect the brain\'s response to repetitive stimuli along a specific pathway (i.e., an evoked potential).
