Surgical gloves designed to protect both the patient and wearer from the risk of allergic reactions (i.e., hypoallergenic) to latex. These gloves are usually made of synthetic (e.g., polyisoprene, styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene) polymers; the gloves provide a barrier against blood and body fluid pathogens. Staff use should be facilitated because the gloves have appropriate characteristics of tactility, comfort of use, ease of donning, adequate sterility, tensile strength, resistance to puncture, elasticity, and sizing consistency. Hypoallergenic surgical gloves are used mainly as a two-way barrier to protect allergic and/or potentially allergic patients and/or staff members against contamination caused by microorganisms.
