Heat exchangers designed to warm or cool blood and/or perfusion fluids flowing through the device, as part of a heart-lung bypass procedure. These heat exchangers are frequently combined with an oxygenator as a disposable single unit of a heart-lung bypass equipment. Heart lung bypass heat exchangers are used to lower the temperature of the blood, reducing the metabolic requirements of the heart and the oxygen demand of the brain and other organs during surgery and to re-warm the blood at the end of the surgical procedure.
