?:definition
  • Patient warming units designed to warm the patient by blowing warm air across the patient (i.e., convectively). These units consist of a warming device with a thermostatically controlled fan heater (blower) heating and forcing the air circulation, a specially designed reusable or disposable blanket for the patient, and a flexible hose that attaches to an inlet in the warming blanket. Usually these units also include controls and alarms. Forced-air patient warming units are mostly used for rewarming patients in postanesthesia care units ( PACUs) and to help in the prevention of intraoperative hypothermia in the operating room.
