Endoscopes, either rigid of flexible, designed for direct insertion through the canal of the uterine cervix into the cavity of the uterus for visual examination, biopsy, and treatment of lesions of the interior of the cervix and the cavity of the uterus. Hysteroscopes usually consist of an outer sheath, a lighting system, and a working channel for catheters and operative devices; they may be flexible or rigid.
