Ultraviolet (UV) lights designed to kill airborne microorganisms, reducing their concentration in closed environments. These lights usually consist of bulbs or tubes similar in appearance to standard fluorescent tubes used for illumination. UV germicidal lights are very effective in destroying the DNA of microorganisms, leaving them unable to perform vital cellular functions. They are intended to eliminate and or prevent the spread of microorganisms in the air, on surfaces, and in water. Germicidal ultraviolet lamps are available in different sizes, shapes, and configurations (e.g., freestanding, tabletop, wall-mounted, duct-mounted, ceiling-mounted, portable).
