Handheld mirrors designed for visualization of the larynx and/or pharynx through the mouth cavity. These mirrors typically consist of a small lightweight round glass device that is compact and easy to manipulate and whose surface is sufficiently polished to reflect an image of the pharynx and or larynx. They have a very thin metal (e.g., stainless steel) shaft that supports the mirror and is also used as a handle. Larynx/pharynx handheld mirrors are available in a variety of diameters and sizes; the handles may be permanently attached to the mirror or detachable, permitting the use of several different handles (e.g., extra thin, octagonal, chuck type) with the same mirror. Larynx/pharynx mirrors are used for examination and also for some other otolaryngology procedures (e.g., removal of foreign objects, excision of tissue).
