Dental prophylactic units designed to dislodge plaque, calculus, and stain from teeth using ultrasonic waves. These devices typically consist of an electronic unit including a radiofrequency generator that operates at frequencies from 25 to 42 kHz, a water spray, a handpiece with a probe that includes an ultrasonic transducer and interchangeable specialized tips (e.g., universal, periodontal, sickle [for fine debridement and/or sensitive teeth]), a switch, and a cable to connect the handpiece to the generator. Depending on the type of specialized tip, ultrasonic dental prophylactic units can also be used for endodontic, restorative, periodontics, and other dental procedures.
