Regulators that provide a means of controlling vacuum levels and adjusting the suction flow rate, typically from wall vacuum outlets or vacuum pumps, during the evacuation of various substances from a patient\'s body. A suction regulator limits the maximum amount of suction that can be administered to the patient by maintaining negative pressure. These regulators usually include the pressure-regulation mechanism, pressure-adjusting controls, and a calibrated manometer. Most regulators are equipped with a gauge calibrated in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) or in centimeters of water (cm H2O); others have both mm Hg and cm H2O calibrations. Suction regulators can have continuously, intermittently, or both function modes, with control valves that allow the user to switch between modes.
