Nonadhesive tapes designed for application to the remnant of the umbilical cord of a newborn to stop bleeding after the umbilical cord is cut or for use in a variety of surgical procedures (e.g., retraction). These tapes are usually long and narrow strips supplied in rolls. These tapes are usually made of braids of strips made of material such as cotton and polyester; the ends are attached each other using a fastener (e.g., a safety pin). Umbilical tapes are also used in other clinical applications, such as to tie off the umbilical stump during a catheterization procedure. Umbilical cord tapes are frequently supplied in sterile containers.
