Monitors designed for continuous measurement and display at a central station of the temperature of the internal regions of the body (core temperature) and/or the skin and subcutaneous (shell) temperature. This information is taken from a distant location through a point-to-point radio or other appropriate communication link (i.e., telemetric). These monitors typically consist of a main unit clipped to the patient\'s gown (or carried in a pouch) which includes electronic circuits that can process signals from temperature-sensing probes; a transducer; a display; and audible and/or visual alarms that are triggered when the patient\'s temperature drops below or exceeds preset limits; the monitor also includes a receiver that is integral or associated to the central station where the information is displayed. Most multipurpose and electrocardiography telemetric monitors are capable of temperature monitoring.
