  • Short tubes or cannulae with an outer plug designed to be placed in the opening created by a tracheostomy. Tracheostomy buttons do not extend into the trachea. These devices are usually used to prevent the narrowing of the tracheostomy stoma during intermittent use of a tracheostomy tube. They can also be used for attaching devices such as speaking valves or for suctioning mucus. Tracheostomy buttons may be made of polymer or silicone.
