Flat plates with multiple reservoirs or wells that hold between tens of nanoliters to several milliliters of liquid or dry powder samples. Microplates typically have 6, 12, 24, 48, 96, 384 or 1,536 sample wells arranged in a 2:3 rectangular matrix. Microplates are used in laboratory testing, such as nucleic acid purification and bacterial culture growth. The wells can have rounded or flat bottoms and be circular or square.
