Valves designed to regulate liquid flow between the anterior chamber and the conjunctiva space of the eye by allowing flow when the pressure in the chamber is above a preset value (e.g., 8 to 10 mm Hg). These devices usually are very small (e.g., slit) valves that are frequently implanted in the eye as a component of an eye stent. Eye valves typically are used in patients with advanced glaucoma disease when, despite the use of medication regimens, laser treatments, or a previous glaucoma filtration procedure (trabeculectomy), the addition of a drainage tube and valve is recommended.
