Wheelchair lifts designed to move a wheelchair-bound person between ground level outside a motor vehicle and within the vehicle. Most of these lifts consist of a platform onto which the patient wheels the wheelchair; then the platform is used to raise the wheelchair into the vehicle. Other lifts include a powered arm mounted in the vehicle that is attached to the wheelchair to raise it. These lifts use electric or hydraulic power; some may be operated using the vehicle battery. Most motor-vehicle wheelchair lifts are permanently mounted in the vehicle.
